QR3.2 SARC and Fatigue Management

Overview

 

This course has been designed for workers who are required to access the rail corridor as part of their role. It is designed to give learners the skills and knowledge required to safely enter and navigate around the rail corridor and danger zone with the permission of the access provider, in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

It includes following the policies, procedures and protocols of the access provider for situational awareness and rail safety, operating under local track protection rules in accordance with safe working and regulatory requirements and workplace procedures. It involves accessing and interpreting information about track protection requirements, carrying out assigned protection and/or work activities, and responding appropriately to safety incidents and abnormal situations within the limits of personal responsibility.

It also includes identifying and acting on signs of fatigue and implementing appropriate strategies to minimise fatigue during work activities. 

**This course is valid for personnel looking to work on the Queensland Rail Network**

Certificates

Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive:

Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)
 
  • TLIF2080 – Safely access the rail corridor
  • TLIW2001 – Operate under track protection rules
  • TLIF2010 – Apply fatigue management strategies
Queensland Rail Certificate of Achievement
 
  • QR3.2 Safely Access the Rail Corridor (This course aligns to specific requirements of Queensland Rail's Network Rules and Procedures MD-12-189)
Pathway

Participants may wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the rail industry and enrol within the TLI21315 -  Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure qualification.
 

Topics

The following topics are covered within this course:

  • Demonstrate how to safely access and work in the rail corridor
  • Recognise the danger zone
  • Identify and access a safe place
  • Identify the direction of approaching traffic
  • Apply minimum sighting distances
  • Maintain situational awareness to identify potential risks
  • Identify and explain the use of communication tools when working in the rail environment
  • Identify electrical safety hazards, risks and controls used in the rail corridor
  • Identify and report unsafe situations within the rail environment
  • Undertake work activities under local track protection rules in accordance with safeworking rules, procedures and regulatory requirements

Entry Requirements

Including Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N):

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course.  This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:
 
  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards
  • Calculations of time spent in different activities

Assessment Methods

The following assessment methods are used within this course:

  • Theory assessment (open book)
  • Practical demonstration
  • Case study

Delivery Method

  • This course is facilitated via a face to face workshop

Recertification

The Queensland Rail Certificate of Achievement (QR3.2 Safely Access the Rail Corridor) is valid for 3 years (1095 days) from date of training.

Before the expiry date, students will need to return to CERT to complete a recertification. If the expiry date has passed, the student must return to CERT and re-sit the full Safely Access the Rail Corridor (SARC) course.
