This course is recognised by Metro Trains Melbourne, V/Line, and ARTC in Victoria. This course includes the Metro Trains Melbourne – Safety and Environmental Induction. To work on the V/Line or ARTC network, the Contractor Induction (available online, free) must also be completed. The unit of competency is a requirement for all persons working in track and civil roles (specifically track construction and maintenance) in addition to the TLI21315 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure core units and TLIF2080 Safely access the rail corridor. |

The Victorian Track Safety Awareness - Level 1 course provides skills and knowledge required by all staff and contractors working in the rail corridor under supervision. This course is suitable for individuals who are new to rail. |

This course provides the foundational unit of competency required by all roles across most Australian rail networks; it also provides the Metro Trains Melbourne Safety and Environmental Induction and other knowledge specific to Victorian rail networks. On successful completion of this course, learners are eligible to enrol in:
If high-risk work tickets, certifications, or licences are also held, completion of this course, a category 3 medical, and a Construction Industry ‘White Card’ (CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry) will allow the learner to work across a number of trade (plumber, carpenter, formworker, etc.) and plant operation roles in the rail corridor. |

The TLI21315 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure – Core Units course provides seven of the core units of competency from TLI21315 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure. This course provides the foundational competencies required for many rail labouring, plant, and equipment contractor roles on most Australian railway networks. The eighth core unit, TLIF2080 Safely access the rail corridor is gained through the Train Track Safety Awareness course. Some operators also require you to hold the unit TLIB2085 Apply Track Fundamentals. This is gained through completing the Apply Track Fundamentals course. |

TLIC3045, TLIC2054 and TLIC2058 or TLIC2059 are nationally recognised units and are mandatory units for the following roles from the ARA Infrastructure Matrix.
These units are applicable in Victoria under one of the two listed national roles and for V/Line and ARTC this same course satisfies the Safeworking TVO requirements to travel on these networks. The Rail-Road Plant Operator course provides the skills and knowledge required to operate road vehicles (trucks, excavators, utes) fitted with rail guidance; it includes the placing of the vehicle on and off the track; and the procedures for seeking permission to put it on or off track within a defined worksite (occupation or possession). Overview |
This is a general qualification for a person engaged in basic operations within the rail infrastructure environment undertaking a range of tasks involving known routines and procedures, and taking some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes. CERT routinely provides this training to existing rail infrastructure workers, however programs designed for new entrants to the industry including trainees and job seekers are available. |

Duration |
The duration of training and assessment for this course is dependent on participant details. Existing Rail Infrastructure Workers and persons with existing skills and knowledge will require less training prior to assessment in line with Australian competency-based-training principles. For new entrants with no previous skills and knowledge the course is typically run over 10 weeks fulltime, however the duration is dependent on a number of factors, including the electives chosen, mode of delivery, assessment approach and individual participant needs. Yes. Upon successful completion of all training and assessments, a nationally recognised qualification will be issued. Where students do not complete all 16 units successfully, a Statement of Attainment will be issued, listing the units they have successfully completed. |
